Clogged toilets and what to do
Clogged toilets and when you need a plumber or not
Who hasn’t had that horrible experience of the toilet not flushing? This can be a simple issue that doesn’t need a expensive plumbing visit. There are a few different reasons why a toilet wont flush
The stool with the toilet paper/wipes clogged the s trap in the toilet
Foreign Item accidentally got flushed into s trap
A stoppage in the main line or branch main line to that bathroom
The toilet Fill valve is clogged and not filling bowl from fill tube
Fill valve bowl filling tube isn’t aiming into Flush valve hole
toilet handle is getting stuck of doesn’t allow flapper to work how designed
Rare cases old toilets get so much water build up in the porcelain channels the tank bubbles when you flush and goes very slow
First Step is Figuring out the issue, be patient what a plumber can figure out in 5 minutes might take you a hour to discover. First step, when the toilet didn’t flush did it start filling up to the top or did water come out from the base of the toilet and or shower bath next to it? if the water is to the brim of your toilet but the base is dry and if there is a shower bath or sink near that toilet and are still working this is a simple issue that can be handled quickly. its a s trap clog either a plunger or auger can unclog. If you dont have a auger they sell them at home depot (import to only get the 6ft extended ones only trust me). If water is coming up from the base of the toilet or flooding a bath/shower, or coming up a floor drain. stop using all drains in home immediately. Thats when you can either rent snake or call a plumber. I suggest calling a plumber trust me again renting the snake isn’t going to save you much and i’ve seen it go south quite a bit. Don’t believe everything they say but a good reputable drain company will get you flowing at least. If its just not flushing right, that’s when it can be the fill valve, handle, or tube direction. I will give detailed guides on those issues soon.
